two poems of inspiration

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 2, 2010, 6:44 PM

“Trust your wound to a teacher's surgery.
Flies collect on a wound. They cover it,
those flies of your self protective feelings,
your love for what you think is yours.

Let a teacher wave away the flies
and put a plaster on the wound.
Don't turn your head.
Keep looking at the bandage place.
That's where the light enters you.

And don't believe for a moment
that you're healing yourself".
RUMI "Childhood Friends ”

Wild Geese
Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Manne-e Kin -desure for the ideal

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 23, 2010, 2:01 PM

As always i am intested in the impact cultural ideals and stereotypes have on my own perceptions of attractiveenss . In the Mann-e-Kin series we encounter our synthetic cousins inhabit worlds we can only imagine -in this folder I explore how they represent out our secret desires to be uniformly attractive and available. In the related folie-e deux series I compare a live model with the manufactured to deconstuct desire and attraction.

Like children with toys we sometimes use mannequins to act as screens for our projections and wish fulfillment.
Sometimes we reduce these desires -a headless torso there, a blanded face there , just legs and a torso elsewhere

As our desires change even mannequins become outdated, perish or blister in warehouse fires

how much do we want to be like them, posses them and there seemingly imperishable and detached beauty ... ?

Studio 54 Birthday eve thoughts

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 13, 2010, 12:17 AM

Yes my birthday is Valentine's day - you would think this would mean I would be lucky in love or at least romance -but far from it! Ihave had two real relationships in my life -one a marriage to Glendyr a great person to share life with who gave me many great expereinces and the ongoing gift of three fabulous children and the other -a very romantic highly charged relaqtionship with a guy for three yars off and on who was sadly unable to sustain an intimate relationship. I have been single -the gay divocee- for 5 years now and Im over it. I thought I was going to do a "Senator Bob Brown" and meet my husband at the age of 52 -but it seems not.

On the work front an unplanned exit from a management job has given me the chance to fianlly align my work with who I am - I have returned to my orginal love social work three days per week and am freestyling art and consulting the rest of the time. I am happier and less stressed having come through a very demanding time with a better grasp of my core values and skills.

Studio 54 -my 54th year will be an incrdibly creative one where I experiment with new ways of having meaningful work and life /Lets hope iam luckier in love this year!
